Dylan (aka Sir Scrub)'s Story
About
Dylan Shelton was an illustrator, artist and model who lived and worked in Bristol, UK, working under the name Sir Scrub. In 2021 his life completely changed when he was diagnosed with synovial sarcoma, a rare cancer which often affects young people. This led to his dominant drawing hand being amputated. Not being one to sit around feeling sorry for himself, he quickly taught himself to draw with his non-dominant left hand and signed on to model with Zebedee Talent Modelling Agency!

In April 2024, after three years of conventional treatments and finding inspirational ways of living well with his diagnosis, tragically Dylan died. He is much loved and much missed. Alongside wonderful memories, he left us his unique and darkly humorous artwork, full of his impish spirit, fun and often brutal sense of humour. His compassionate and empathetic view of the ridiculousness of the world shines through in his illustrations and design.

This website celebrates Dylan's artwork, bringing his special take on the world to the world. He took great pleasure from making people smile, laugh and be happy - we hope this collection will continue bring you joy, whether you knew him or not.
The shop will be releasing editions of tees and prints gradually over the months and years. All profits will go to the Scrub Sarcoma Foundation which is being set up in Dylan's name to raise money to support young people in their 20s living with sarcoma. More information about how Dylan lived a full and peaceful life after diagnosis will be available on the foundation website in the months ahead.

earlier WORK
"I have been drawing as long as I can remember, it was the only thing I really loved doing apart from gambling. This led to me studying illustration at UWE, eventually graduating with a 2:1, winning a few awards on the way. My work back then was all digital, very precise and rigid. I would often spend hours perfecting one tiny detail such as a nipple or the top of a ketchup bottle."

POST AMPUTATION
"Whilst recovering from my amputation I started to attempt drawing with my left hand and found it immediately very liberating. I felt as though the pressure had been lifted and I was actually enjoying drawing for the first time in years. I also developed a confidence in my body image that I hadn't felt before, hence joining a modelling agency".
